How to Know If You’re Out of Alignment (And What to Do About It)
When you’re knee-deep in your business, it’s easy to forget that you’re a whole person, not just a productivity machine.
You get caught up in the launches, the client calls, the social media posts… and before you know it, even the things you once loved start to feel a little flat.
We all hit those moments.
You’re showing up, doing the work, checking every box, but somehow, it still feels like you’re running on empty.
I promise, you haven’t lost your spark. You may have just drifted out of alignment with it.
It happens quietly. One overbooked week, one “yes” when you really meant “not right now,” one too many scrolls through what everyone else is doing. Before you know it, your business starts to feel like a weight instead of a creative outlet.
Let this serve as your reminder: alignment isn’t lost forever. You can always find your way back.
In this post, I’m sharing 5 ways to know if you are out of alignment, what to do about it if you are, PLUS three of my favorite ways to realign when business starts to feel a little off. These are simple practices I come back to anytime I need to clear the noise, reconnect with my “why,” and find my flow again.
5 Signs You’re Out of Alignment
Let’s make this simple. If any of these sound familiar, it might be time for a reset.
1.You’re hitting snooze on ideas that used to light you up.
You’re doing “the things,” but the spark is gone. You feel like you’re forcing creativity that used to come naturally.
2.Your to-do list looks productive, but none of it feels purposeful.
You’re getting things done — but they’re not the right things. It’s motion without meaning.
3.You’re creating because you “should,” not because you want to.
You’ve fallen into autopilot. Maybe you’re following trends instead of intuition.
4.You’re doom-scrolling for inspiration instead of actually creating.
You’re gathering ideas, but it’s more overwhelming than motivating. Comparison mode: activated.
5.You’ve started resenting your inbox, your audience, or your laptop.
That’s not burnout talking — that’s misalignment. Your creativity’s asking for breathing room.
What to Do About It
Before you burn it all down or buy another course you don’t need, take a breath. Realignment doesn’t require a massive overhaul, just a few grounded shifts.
1. Pause for Awareness.
Step back and notice what’s draining you.
Which tasks or commitments feel heavy? Which ones still light you up?
2. Reground.
Do something to pull your focus back into the present. A walk, journaling, or even washing dishes with no podcast on.
Stillness is underrated.
3. Re-align.
Ask yourself: What do I want to create this week, just for me?
This one question can reconnect you to the creative core of why you started.
4. Reignite.
Shift your space, try a new ritual, or make time for play.
Sometimes, the best business advice is to go live your life again.
BONUS: 3 Ways to Realign When You Feel Off Track
As promised, here are three of my personal favorite ways to bring your energy (and your business) back into flow. They’re simple, introspective, and wildly effective when you actually give yourself the space to do them.
1. Have a “Check-In Chat” With Your Business
Literally sit down and treat your business like a living, breathing partner.
Grab your journal and ask:
What do you need from me right now?
What’s feeling heavy or out of sync?
Where are we thriving, and what feels forced?
Then, write the answers as if your business were speaking back.
2. Audit the Energy, Not Just the Analytics
Data is useful, but it’s not the full picture. Instead of focusing only on what’s performing well, check in with how each part of your business feels.
Ask yourself:
What tasks drain me every week?
Which clients or projects feel easy and energizing?
What offers excite me to promote, and which ones feel like a chore?
3. Revisit Your “Why” (and Make Sure It Still Fits)
Sometimes the reason things feel “off” is because you’ve evolved. What once felt exciting may now feel restrictive, and that’s not failure, that’s growth.
Take 15 minutes to reflect:
Why am I doing this now?
What lights me up most about what I offer?
Is my business aligned with the life I actually want to live today?
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to be “on” all the time to be successful.
In fact, the best breakthroughs often come after the pause.
Make time for what brings you back to center, not just what keeps you busy. Your energy sets the tone. When you’re aligned, everything else falls into place.
